MILAN - Smiling, white shirt, light brown suit. Ready, bright-eyed, happy to be in that very place at that very time. "Inter, I'm finally here." Wesley Sneijder embarked on his Inter journey on 28 August 2009, exactly eleven years ago. It was a long negotiation process that finally went through at the end of the window. He didn't have much time to prepare for his first ever game as an Inter player. "I know enough about pressure, I want to play right away and show myself to the crowd in Milan."
Firm from the word go, Sneijder arrived at Pinetina, met his teammates, did his opening press conference and then went straight to his first training session as an Inter player. Albeit on his own, not as a part of the group. One day later, on 29 August 2009, AC Milan vs. Inter at San Siro. José Mourinho fooled them all; Inter's new number 10 would start. Sneijder had never trained with his new teammates, but enchanted from the opening whistle. He put in a dazzling display in that 4-0 Derby win. The first real marker in the treble-winning season.
The rest, as they say, is history; Wesley Sneijder, born in Utrecht in 1984, played 116 games, scored 22 goals and won it all - 1 Scudetto, 1 Champions League, 2 Coppa Itallia, 1 World Club Cup, 1 Supercoppa - in his three-and-a-half seasons with Inter.
Legendary goals, unforgettable moments and a story to be told and retold with the official Inter Podcast and this episode of "10 Number 10's".
