DÜSSELDORF - “We’re certainly ready and playing how we should be.” Ashley Young sounded the charge ahead of Inter’s UEFA Europa League semi-final clash on Monday, with the Nerazzurri aiming to overcome Shakhtar Donetsk to qualify for the final of the competition.
“I think that my teammates and the staff members played a vital role in helping me immediately feel part of the group,” he said to Inter TV. The Englishman continued: “The aim is to repay all the support you’re given by doing absolutely everything you can out on the pitch for the benefit of the Club. It’s a team sport, and we give 100% in training, during which nobody wants to lose. This then carries over to the pitch when we play competitive matches.
“We’re doing well but need to complete our work, we’ve got two games left to make it a memorable end to the season,” he concluded. “We’ve analysed Shakhtar’s previous matches: while they have good players, we need to focus on ourselves in order to perform well and make the most of our quality. After a couple of months where we played every three days, it’s rather strange to have a week to prepare for the semi-final, but it means that we can be thorough. The best teams have made the last four, and we’ll have to take to the pitch on Monday with one aim in mind: beating Shakhtar. We’re ready!”
