Barella: "We want to build something important"

The Nerazzurri midfielder: "The Coach and my teammates are fantastic: I learn something new every day"

MILAN - Nicolò Barella has been one of Inter’s key players since this season's beginning and fresh off scoring against both Hellas Verona in the league and against Armenia while on international duty, the midfielder spoke to Dazn about his first few months at Inter and his journey from Cagliari to Milan.

“I dreamed of this when I was a child and then I realised that, little by little, I could make those dreams goals. I dreamt about becoming a footballer, about making my debut for Cagliari in Serie A, about making 100 appearances in the league for Cagliari, about wearing the captain’s armband. I also dreamed about playing a great team: now, here at Inter, I think I’ve arrived there.”

“For me, being a footballer is a passion first and a job second, my father passed this onto me. Obviously it’s the most wonderful job in the world and the more demanding it is, the more wonderful it is going forward. The emotion of entering the stadium, feeling the fan’s affection, hearing the crowd singing your name: they are parts of an amazing profession.”

He scored his first league goal for Inter against Hellas Verona, after he had already scored in the Champions League: “I didn’t fully enjoy my goal against Slavia Prague because it was a complicated match and we weren’t able to win. It was a real feeling of liberation against Hellas Verona, I was delighted to gift the team a victory.”

But Barella also has another favourite activity on the pitch: “I always enjoy making slide tackles; it makes me really happy whenever I win the ball back and hear the crowd roar. I play using my instinct a lot but I also work every day to keep learning, the help I get from the Coach and the champions who play for Inter is crucial.”

“Leaving Cagliari was an important step for me, I’m happy here at Inter because I can show my worth. I came here because it’s an important club, one of world’s best coaches is here, there are many great players here and we want to build something important. We’re not looking at the table for the moment, we’re trying to keep going forward and keep improving.”
